Buick Encore P1101: the LUJ/LUV and LE2 repair paths

Updated 2026-10-09 · Check Engine Solutions editorial desk

The short answer

P1101

P1101 is GM’s “Intake Air Flow System Performance” code: the intake airflow needs diagnosis.

An Encore with P1101 can fall into different GM diagnostic branches. LUJ/LUV guidance includes a PCV-pipe valve fault; LE2 guidance includes a blocked PCV orifice and excessive crankcase pressure. Match the engine RPO before applying either correction.

Part 1

LUJ/LUV: the PCV pipe is one documented cause

PI0907C specifies 8–12% throttle position at warm idle with A/C and defrost off. A reading below 7% indicates unmetered air. The bulletin identifies a PCV pipe with an open back-pressure valve at the turbo inlet; when professional isolation of that pipe restores the reading, GM calls for pipe replacement. The air-cleaner-baffle instruction in this revision is explicitly Cruze-only.

PIP5197F addresses a separate cam-cover/manifold PCV fault on its listed Encore applications. A leaking external PCV port leads to cover replacement; a missing manifold non-return valve can damage the diaphragm, and its confirmed absence means manifold replacement.

Part 2

LE2: positive crankcase pressure changes the repair path

20-NA-047 sets the LE2 normal range at −1 to −5 inH₂O in Park at hot idle. Pressure above 0 inH₂O needs further investigation, including intake restrictions and the PCV orifice. A blocked orifice is cleared of its obstruction and replaced as necessary, together with camshaft-cover gaskets.

The earlier LUJ/LUV normal range in PIP5197F is −11 to −18 inH₂O at hot idle in Park. That difference is why engine identification must accompany a pressure reading. The comparison is summarized in the Cruze engine-matching guide.
