Vehicle reference
Buick Encore
Identify the engine RPO before choosing a repair path. GM’s LUJ / LUV and LE2 references differ, and in cold-weather bulletin 17-NA-221 the LE2 is absent from the 2020 Encore application.
Coverage and bulletin details
Choose the guide by code and conditions. P0299 that appears in extreme cold, at 0°F (−18°C) or below, belongs in the cold-weather guide. GM’s LE2 bulletin adds short or slow trips with symptoms in the first 10 to 15 minutes. For P1101, use the P1101 guide and note any oil leak or change in idle before the appointment.
Then match the engine, because the two families are judged against different numbers. On the LUJ and LUV, PIP5197F gives a normal crankcase pressure of −11 to −18 inH₂O at hot idle in Park. On the LE2, 20-NA-047 gives −1 to −5 inH₂O. A pressure reading means little until the engine is known.
The 2016 model year is where the engines cross over, as on the Cruze: GM lists the 2016 Encore in both LUJ/LUV and LE2 documents. On the Encore the overlap runs longer, since 16-NA-405 keeps the LUV through 2021. Confirm the engine by RPO or VIN, not by year.
