Cruze P1101 after an air-filter change: baffle and PCV-pipe checks

Updated 2026-10-09 · Check Engine Solutions editorial desk

The short answer

P1101

P1101 is GM’s “Intake Air Flow System Performance” code: the intake airflow needs diagnosis.

GM identifies a missing or misplaced air-cleaner baffle as one cause of P1101 on the LUJ/LUV Cruze. Correct positioning is the first check in that branch. A separate PCV-pipe valve fault can admit unmetered air and is corrected by pipe replacement when the diagnostic test confirms it.

Part 1

The reading GM uses

PI0907C gives a throttle-position reference of 8–12% at warm idle with A/C and defrost off, for use after normal diagnosis has failed to resolve P1101. A reading below 7% indicates unmetered air entering the intake. These conditions belong with the number. Only a measurement establishes the reading; the stored code points to the test.

Part 2

Branch one: the air-cleaner baffle

A missing or incorrectly positioned baffle can produce a low reading and P1101. At this stage, the technician verifies and restores the correct baffle arrangement before diagnosis continues. In PI0907C this instruction is explicitly for the Chevrolet Cruze. An air-filter service immediately before the warning is useful context for that inspection.

Part 3

Branch two: the PCV pipe at the turbo inlet

GM also identifies an open back-pressure valve in the PCV pipe at the turbocharger inlet. When the technician’s isolation test returns the throttle position to the normal range, the bulletin prescribes a new PCV pipe. A filter-service invoice should therefore include the pipe only when that separate fault is confirmed.

What changed from the earlier reference

PI0907A listed 2011–2013 Cruze models. The October 2016 PI0907C extends the LUJ/LUV application through 2016 and retains the two branches. For an LE2 Cruze, start with the engine-matching guide. Bring the service date and full scan report so the shop can relate the warning to its inspection.
